Review & Giveaway: Girl Meets Underworld by Jess Watkins

Girl Meets Underworld by Jess Watkins
Published Date: Febuary 2013
Publisher: Opis Publishing
Genre: YA, paranormal

The Story: Having lost her mother and brother, Stella stands on the roof of her building, about to jump. She is stopped by a handsome young man, who jumps first. Somehow, he survives and Stella soon discovers that Conner holds a dark secret and more than a passing connection to her own unhappiness.

But Conner isn’t the only man to take an interest in Stella. Will is dangerous. He has mood swings, a crazy older brother and the ability to heal abnormally quickly. Stella knows what Conner is, but what exactly is Will – and why does he appear to know more about Conner than she does?

My Review: I really enjoyed this book!  It was really cute.  When it started out, it was sounding a lot like Twilight, but then the book took on a life of its own!

Set in England, which makes for some intresting reading (a little bit different kind of english language)!  But, if you've watched any BBC shows, you start hearing those accents as you're reading.  Stella isn't the typical damsel in disstress, but she's stubborn!  She doesn't let people tell her what to do, not even the two guys she likes, possible loves?

There are a lot of twists in the book, which I like a lot.  Jess Watkins has given us a glimpse into the underworld.

Interview with Jess Watkins:

BCM: Will there be a book 2?
JW: There will definitely be a sequel but I may not be able to start writing until I finish university in July.

BCM: How hard was it to write about a possible suicide?
JW: It was challenging because I've never gone through anything like what Stella experienced, so I had to try and put myself in her shoes, to feel what she felt.
BCM:  If you were Stella, would it be Will or Conner?

JW: As the author I shouldn't really choose between them but... it would be Conner because he's more charming.

BCM:  I'm currently writing my own story, so I was wondering how do you handle when your characters want to go one way, but you had a completely different idea?

JW: Sometimes I go along with it to see what ends up happening, but other times I have to delete the scene and start again.

BCM:  Who are some authors you look up to?
JW: Jasper Fforde, Chris Wooding and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Thanks Jess!!
