About (from Goodreads): Forbidden love, intoxicating power, and the terror of control…

Raine has always been a good girl. She lives by the rules in Freedom. After all, they are her father’s rules: He’s the Director. It’s because of him that Raine is willing to use her talent—a power so dangerous, no one else is allowed to know about it. Not even her roommate, Vi.

All of that changes when Raine falls for Gunner. Raine’s got every reason in the world to stay away from Gunn, but she just can’t. Especially when she discovers his connection to Vi’s boyfriend, Zenn. Raine has never known anyone as heavily brainwashed as Vi. Raine’s father expects her to spy on Vi and report back to him. But Raine is beginning to wonder what Vi knows that her father is so anxious to keep hidden, and what might happen if she helps Vi remember it. She’s even starting to suspect Vi’s secrets might involve Freedom’s newest prisoner, the rebel Jag Barque...

My Review:  I know what you're thinking: "What? It's not from Vi's point of view???" Don't worry, I thought that too, but SURRENDER and Elana Johnson did not disappoint. Don't let the point of view scare you, because you still get plenty of Vi and Jag. Plus, Raine is a stellar character all of her own. And Gunner, well, Gunner is all kinds of awesome. And you'll get an awesome dose of both Raine and Gunner in SURRENDER because this book is told from both points of view.

Raine is one of those characters you're rooting for on page one because you really want her to succeed. She's never been the one to rebel and she certainly doesn't break the rules, but she's easy to like and someone I related to right away. She felt normal in so many ways. For example, she'd been saving all of her choice points for eight months just so she could use her points to get out of calculations class for an entire day. That is totally something I would have done in high school, and I loved her for it. And when it came to her roommate, Vi, she obeyed all the rules. Even though she knew she could easily break some of those rules to help Vi, she wouldn't do it. Not at first anyway.

Then, there's Gunner. Let's call him Gunn. He's the male lead that I can't get enough of in my books. He's smart and he's a total gentleman. Gunn is matched with Starr, and even though he isn't in love with her, he doesn't want to hurt her. And things for Gunn are definitely dangerous. He has no privacy and knows that Zenn is hiding something--something that no one else knows. And his feelings for Raine were so palpable, it felt as though I could touch them on the page. I LOVED him!

SURRENDER is full of surprises, danger and stolen kisses--an awesome mix of all my favorite story elements that has me wanting more from this series. Elana Johnson really knows how to pack a punch and I'd definitely recommend SURRENDER for anyone's reading list. If you were a fan of the fist novel, POSSESSION, you should definitely pre-order this one immediately!

  21. Just call it Upcycle. I have never heard of this word before you mentioned it. Define and brand it. Maybe you will end up with something like IVillage or Etsy.

  22. I think that the leaf would only appear black as there is no light around it...If there is no light it will not reflect any light back to our eyes, that's why it will appear to us black.
