Chael's Luck by Mireille Chester

Chael's Luck

Forever Lost In My Own World Mireille Chester's Book Blog

From the Author's Blog: When you’re named for the god of bad luck, you’re at least a head shorter than everyone else around you, and your horse is the only black one in a world where every horse is a grey, people are bound to talk.

Chael has spent the past eighteen years of his life proving to those around him that he’s worthy of his family name; that he’s meant to be a Shadow Knight. Just when things are finally going his way, Chael’s luck strikes again.

Now, Chael is in a race against time to find the one who has taken everything from him and who plans on destroying the one thing he’s worked so hard for, the knighthood. As if this weren't enough, he’ll have to reveal the one thing he’s managed to keep secret for the past eighteen years.

With help from some unexpected sources, Chael sets off on a journey that will test his will, his character, and his heart.

My Review: This book will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. I was reading Chael's Luck when my husband had to go in for emergency surgery. I sat in the Surgery waiting room for 2 hours with my Kindle Fire. After speaking with my mom on the phone for a few minutes, I decided to read. AND READ I DID! I was quite startled when the surgeon came in to tell me everything was fine and my husband would be back in his room soon. I was so lost in this book that the wait during Jeff's surgery went so fast! I ended up staying up that night until 400am. I stayed up and finished Chael's Luck and to watch over my husband as he slept.

Now onto the book: this was an incredible story of strength, pride, determination, rites of passage, friendship and life lessons. It really truly is. I loved this book. It was such an emotional story. Author Mireille Chester really knows how to write an incredible story. Chael's life started out anything but easy. Chael has spent a whole life of being put down due to size. But Chael makes up for it in cleverness and determination. Chael holds a secret that is HUGE. I MEAN HUGE and it is so cool when you find out what it is because your mind just goes AHA!!!

I highly recommend this book to YA and Adults both. This book has incredible characters. They are so real that you feel like you are in the book itself.

  2. Yes I believe in good and bad luck. Everyone goes through both. I am glad your husband made it through surgery fine and that the book helped you pass the time. The wait is worst part of it. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. Tore923@aol.com

  5. This sounds like a great book and would love a chance to get to read it! I think luck really depends on personal preference. I tend to get a bit nervous on Friday the 13th but wouldn't say that I believe luck is all about faith. Sometimes life throws curve balls and it's not the curve balls that count but the reaction is.
I'm so glad that your husband's surgery went well and you were able to take your mind off things for a bit while waiting. I can understand the stress of wondering as I was once sitting in the waiting room to hear about a family member going into surgery. I wasn't able to concentrate on the book I was reading at that time but for a few minutes at a time I was able to get lost.
Was such a relief when the doctor came to say everything was fine and I sat up most of that night keeping an eye on the family member and it is when I really started getting into The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
As I have heard many times, life is what you make it and you can choose whether to let something keep you down or rise above it. Personally, I try my best to stay positive and try to help others get through tough times to be positive as well.
Thank goodness for books that we all can get lost in!

  6. I do believe in luck. I usually say I have bad luck until I think about all that I have and realize how lucky I really am.

  10. Yes, I do believe in good luck and bad luck. Or fate or destiny. I think things happen for a reason though too. So who really knows? Thanks for a chance to win some swag. Your review makes me want to read this book, and I'm glad your husband's surgery turned out OK. I remember reading Alex Flinn's Beastly while my son had an appendectomy. He's fine too, but I'll always associate that book with his hospital visit.
