Tempest Blog Tour: Exclusive Journal Entry & Giveaway

Welcome to Part Two of the TEMPEST Blog Tour! I'm so thrilled to be co-hosting this tour with Yara from Once Upon a Twilight and hope that you've been enjoying following along. Part One of the tour ran from December 5th through the 16th and Part Two kicks off here today and runs through this Friday, the 6th. There are all kinds of awesome stops on this tour, including fantasy casting with the author, special interviews with the Julie's editor and agent and some great teasers.

We have a special treat for you today with an inside look into Holly's feelings. You'll be reading her personal diary entry, which is NOT included in the book. This is an exclusive extra. Enjoy!

Holly’s Entry #3
June 5th, 2009
Disclaimer: Okay, so maybe this isn't word-for-word and maybe I choose to alter or leave out some details but it is my diary so...

When I leave, I’m completely aware of the fact that I’m walking in the direction I’ve seen Jackson walking when he isn’t being picked up by a dude in a fancy car. But he left work, like, three hours ago so I’m totally not following him or stalking him, right?

It’s Central Park. A ton of people are here.

I walk for awhile and then find a nice grassy spot to stretch out in with my iPod and my recording of A Tale Of Two Cities. I’m attempting to refresh my memory of the book to help with a lit class I’ve got fall semester. But listening to it is not always fun.

My mind drifts to all kinds of places until I finally switch to some music, just for a little mental break. I’d only been in my spot for about thirty minutes before Jackson’s leaning over me, as if I had planned this little accidental meeting.

“Holly Flynn! Are you stalking me?” he says with a smile.

“This is Central Park… not your bedroom,” I say more defensively than I should. My cheeks get really hot.

He grins even bigger and flops onto the grass next to me. “Don’t you usually jet out of here to go see Danny or Donald… whatever his name is?”

I roll my eyes at him. “David is working and I’m just… well… I’m trying to see if I can get used to this… living in New York.”

“A little different than, Jersey,” he says, rolling on his side to face me. He points to the building across the street and grins. “You parked yourself right in front of my building. That’s the reason for the stalker accusations.”

I’m barely listening because he’s smiling and it looks different. Just a little different than I’ve seen before.

“You have dimples,” I blurt out and then my face heats up a little more. “I mean… I never really noticed them before.”

“I’ve had them since birth. It’s a curse…old ladies pinching my cheeks all the time.” He pulls one of the ear buds out of my ear and picks up my iPod to hit play again. “I’m dying to find out what a real Jersey girl listens to.”

I watch his face carefully as he puts the headphone in his ear and waits. The song plays for a few seconds and his eyebrows arch up. “Janis Joplin… interesting… I guess it’s a little bit Jersey Girl.”

From the corner of my eye, I can see exactly how many inches separate us, about six. And the way he’s turned toward me just makes me want him closer. Suddenly, I’m imagining rolling over on my side and pressing myself against him. And not in a friendly way.

“Are you a fan of Bobby Magee?” I ask to divert my impromptu fantasy.

“Sure, who isn’t?” he says with a shrug then he switches songs except it’s the book I was listening too. “Dickens, yuck… this isn’t Jersey girl enough for you, Holly.”

I snatch my back pack from the grass and hit him over the head with it, but I’m laughing. “You’re such an ass.”

He stares at me for several seconds and I’ve done something. It’s like he’s lost or forgotten some plan he formed from the window of his apartment. Jackson—unscripted.

He lays down next me again and turns the volume way down on the iPod and starts reciting the book along with the man’s voice coming from the headphones.

I can see his face turn toward me, can feel his warm breath hitting my cheek, but I don’t move. I just keep staring up at the clouds listening to his voice. It’s the single most sexiest thing I’ve ever heard.

“Why do you have this book memorized?” I mumble.

“Mean, torturous English teacher in High school,” he says. “Want to hear it in French?”
“Yes,” I say slightly ashamed at the excitement leaking into my voice.

Jackson picks up where the story left off and says the words in French. Prefect French. With a perfect accent. At least it sounds perfect to me.

That summer in Europe must have done wonders for him.

My fingers are literally tingling, inches from his, dying to make contact. And then I think of that picture of him and his sister and everything Mr. Welborn said and it’s like I’m being hit from all sides. Physical attraction, feeling his grief… I can’t really defend myself and my fingers brush against his. He pauses in his French seduction for a half second and then jumps back into it. The very tips of my fingers move along the inside of his palm, tracing over the lines, not committing to anything.

This feels like the dirtiest, sleaziest thing I’ve ever done and yet I can’t stop. A shadow casts over us and we both look up to see a tall, rail thin guy with wild blonde hair standing over us.

“Dude? Are you playing or not?” the guy says.

Jackson springs up from the grass. “Sorry…I--”

“Got distracted?” the guy asks with a smirk.

I sit up and start to stuff my things into my bag.

“Yeah,” Jackson says. “I was walking though here, toward the softball field and this chick grabbed me by the ankle and tackled me to the ground. I almost had to break out the mace.”

“Right, cause that looked really violent, just now,” the guy says. “And I might believe you picked up a random chick if I didn’t recognize her camp staff shirt.”

Jackson glances down at me and rolls his eyes. “Holly, this is my roommate, Danny. He’s not socially acceptable…ever.”

I stand up and smile a little at the guy. “Hey.”

“He’s partially right,” Danny explains. “I have issues. Unlike Jackson.”

“Okay, are we playing softball or what?” Jackson says, shoving the guy in the opposite direction. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Holly.”
“See ya,” I say and then I decide to go home before I get myself into any more trouble.

About: The year is 2009.  Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler.  Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.
