Review: Emory's Gift by W. Bruce Cameron

Emory's Gift by W Bruce Cameron
Published Date: 2011
Publisher: Forge Books
Genre: YA

The Story: After 13 year old Charlie Hall's mom dies and his dad retreats into the silence of grief, Charlie finds himself lost and adrift in the junior high. But he's not entirely friendless, a bear named Emory becomrs friends with him.

My Review: I loved this book. It was so cute and sweet. Terrifying to in some ways. I cannot imagine making friends with a bear. But the strength that comes to Charlie and his dad over this experience is priceless.

In fact, I'm not the only one here at BCM that loved this book. Another of our bloggers recently reviewed this book as well with very similar thoughts. We both gave it a 5. You can read her review HERE

  1. I'm so glad to hear that you loved this! I read the author's previous book A Dog's Purpose and really, really enjoyed it but haven't picked this one up yet, I think I'll have to.

  2. I've only read one other review of this one, but it definitely looks like a powerful read. It's so sad to think that Charlie has no one else in his life that he can turn to for comfort other than a wild animal. It kinda makes me want to hug them both.

  3. This Is a wonderful story with lots of detail. Two unlikely friends meet when one of them makes a heroek move to save his friend. But it just happens so that the heroic friend is a grizzly bear named Emory!! So an amazing miracle happens to a broken family. An amizing creature has enough love to help a boy and his family.
