***About SHATTERED SOULS***

Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey
Release Date: December 8, 2011
Publisher: Philomel

About: A thrilling debut story of death, love, destiny and danger

Lenzi hears voices and has visions - gravestones, floods, a boy with steel gray eyes. Her boyfriend, Zak, can't help, and everything keeps getting louder and more intense. Then Lenzi meets Alden, the boy from her dreams, who reveals that she's a reincarnated Speaker - someone who can talk to and help lost souls - and that he has been her Protector for centuries.

Now Lenzi must choose between her life with Zak and the life she is destined to lead with Alden. But time is running out: a malevolent spirit is out to destroy Lenzi, and he will kill her if she doesn't make a decision soon.

***Interview with Mary Lindsey***

BCM: Lenzi has a past, a deep rooted past that she can't deny when she's with Alden. What part of her story came to you first? Her past or her present?

ML: Her present life came first. The soul-sharing part of the story developed before the reincarnation. When I decided Alden could feel her soul, the reincarnation aspect evolveed from there.

BCM: Is there any one line from SHATTERED SOULS that can still make you laugh or cry?

ML: I have several favorite lines, but as far as emotions, the scene when Lenzi watches Alden drive away after revealing he has broken the Intercessor rules still gets to me.

There was a scene preceding that one in the original 3rd person version from Alden’s POV that broke my heart when I wrote it. He was dealing with the inevitable result of breaking the Intercessor code, while holding Rose in his arms for the first and last time.

BCM: What gift of Lenzi's would you most/least like to have?

ML: Hearing dead people would freak me out completely. Alden’s ability to feel her emotions and transmit his own through touch would be amazing.

BCM: How did you choose Lenzi's name? Alden's?

ML: Lenzi was named after an acting student. I found Alden’s name when researching English names that were old, but still sound cool today.

BCM: What can we expect from you next?

ML: I’m working on a young adult gothic based on Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, “Annabel Lee.” It will come out from Penguin in 2013.

BCM: What is your favorite read of 2011?

ML: That’s an impossible question to answer. There were so many amazing books released this year.

Right now, I’m reading Clockwork Prince and I’m loving it. A perfect way to end the year.
