Review and giveaway: Shift by Jeri Smith-Ready

Shift by Jeri Smith-Ready
Publish Date: May 3, 2011
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Genre: YA Paranormal

When BCM was approached by Big Honcho Media, working in conjunction with Simon and Schuster, to see if we wanted to review/participate in a giveaway to help promote Jeri Smith-Ready's Shift, the sequel to Shade, there was no way I was going to turn this down. Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely love Jeri Smith-Ready's books, and will do anything in my power to help get the word out about them so more people can discover just how fantastic her books are.  Make sure you keep reading after the review. We have a giveaway!!

About the book (from Goodreads):
Aura’s life is anything but easy. Her boyfriend, Logan, died, and his slides between ghost and shade have left her reeling. Aura knows he needs her now more than ever. She loves Logan, but she can’t deny her connection with the totally supportive, totally gorgeous Zachary. And she’s not sure that she wants to. Logan and Zachary will fight to be the one by her side, but Aura needs them both to uncover the mystery of her past—the mystery of the Shift.
As Aura’s search uncovers new truths, she must decide whom to trust with her secrets…and her heart.

About the author:

Jeri Smith-Ready's previous adult novels include Wicked Game, Requiem for the Devil and Eyes of Crow. This is her first teen series. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two cats, and a retired racing greyhound. Learn more at www.jerismithready.com.

My Review:  I loved Shade. I think I might love Shift even more. I know it is only June, but I know this book is going to be one of my favorites of the year. I was pulled into the story from the get go, and it just got better from there.
Aura has a huge decision to make. Does she stay with Logan, her boyfriend who passed away, but is still hanging around, or does she see how things might work out, with very alive Scottish "exchange student" Zachary? One would think the decision would be easy, but nothing is as cut and dry as it might seem.
And on top of that, Aura is still trying to find out what happened when the Shift took place. What is the significance of her being the first person born after the Shift, and Zachary being the last person born before. With Zachary's help, she finds out a lot more about her mother and what might have happened before the Shift took place. Although each piece of information just brings up more questions to be answered.
And then there are those who do not want Aura looking into this phenomenon and want the information for themselves.
I obviously don't want to say too much for those of you who haven't read it, or I could go on forever about this book.  This is definitely not a book caught in the second book syndrome. The reader gets to take the same path as Aura as she takes the journey to finding out about herself and her family's past.
For me, this book was pure perfection.
