“She killed someone,” Monroe murmurs.
I gasp. “What?”
“It was late one night when we were walking back from dinner. Before then she’d become increasingly short-tempered, agitated. We were nearly to my apartment when a guy in a suit passed by us. Suddenly she stopped and reached out to grab his arm. Before I could even ask what she was doing, she leaned to whisper in the man’s ear.
“‘Go play in traffic’, she’d said. And the guy turned and walked into the street. Right in front of a car.” Monroe starts shaking his head. “He just stepped in front of it.”
“Oh my God.”
“I yelled and tried to help him, but it was no use. He was dead. And when I looked back over my shoulder at Onika… she was smiling. She was smiling and for second, I saw her face. Her true face. And it was horrible.”
