Review: Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs & Giveaway

Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs
Release Date: May 10, 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal

The Story: Tempest Maguire wants nothing more than to surf the killer waves near her California home; continue her steady relationship with her boyfriend, Mark; and take care of her brothers and surfer dad. But Tempest is half mermaid, and as her seventeenth birthday approaches, she will have to decide whether to remain on land or give herself to the ocean like her mother. The pull of the water becomes as insistent as her attraction to Kai, a gorgeous surfer whose uncanny abilities hint at an otherworldly identity as well. And when Tempest does finally give in to the water's temptation and enters a fantastical underwater world, she finds that a larger destiny awaits her-and that the entire ocean's future hangs in the balance.

My Review: Tempest is half mermaid. As her seventeenth birthday approaches she knows she has a decision to make: Will she stay on land with her father and brother or will she listen to the call of the sea? Tempest's life on land is pretty sweet. She has a great on again/off again boyfriend who loves to surf as much as she does, she has great friends and her father is pretty amazing. The decision will not be an easy one, that much is sure.

Tempest's mother is a mermaid, her father human. She hasn't seen her mother since she was eleven and for years now, Tempest has been holding anger about her mother's choice inside. This anger likely has a lot to do with the fact that she can't or won't let her boyfriend, Mark, get very close. It's clear she really cares for him and he for her, but there's something missing. When Kai enters her life, things quickly begin to change. She learns things about him and about herself that are more important to her decision than she can imagine.

Kai is sexy and immediately Tempest feels a connection with him. He shows up almost everywhere and before we know it, things between the two of them heat up, despite the fact that Tempest is still with Mark. After an accident on the beach almost turns deadly, Tempest dives into the ocean only to find a whole new world she never imagined. Not to mention, an evil sea witch that will stop at nothing to get Tempest to join her side.

Tempest Rising is a fun, sexy, quick read. I was surprised at how quickly I was sucked into the story and ended up reading it in less than twenty four hours, which is unheard of for me. I enjoyed the witty dialogue and the unique mystery. Tempest Rising is full of action and a book I absolutely loved.
