Five Stars Friday - Take 4

We here at BCM really, really, really love books that just knock our socks off. We know you do too, so we thought we'd start up a new meme just for those books that we absolutely could not put down; those books that received our highest rating and deserve a little extra recognition.

Every Friday we'll select one book that we've given 5 stars to and tell you a little about why we loved this book so much. Our hope is that this meme will provide some recognition for some books that maybe you haven't heard of but that should be added to your to-be-read pile immediately. There is no age limit on the books we'll choose. They could be yet to be released, newly released or several years old.

We hope you enjoy this meme and we'd love it if you joined in. If you choose to participate, please leave us a link in your comment to your post so we can visit your blog. And if you don't have a blog, please just leave a comment with a book title and author. We'd love to find some new books to add to our to-be-read piles!

This week we are spotlighting:
Moonglass by Jessi Kirby
Release Date: May 3, 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Genre: YA

The Story: When Anna was little, she and her mother used to search for sea glass, but since they looked at night, they called it moonglass. Now, ten years after her mother's mysterious death, her father is working as head lifeguard on the same beach where her mother grew up and her parents first met and fell in love.

Reluctant to get close to anyone (including her father) and not pleased about having to start at a new school, Anna begins to spend more time alone, running the length of the beach and wondering about who her mother really was. After meeting a lifeguard named Tyler, she slowly lets her guard down and together they start exploring the abandoned houses that dot the beach.

But when learning more about her mother's past leads to a painful discovery, Anna must reconcile her desire for solitude with ultimately accepting the love of her family and friends.

Why we LOVE it: Moonglass is an emotional read that had me in tears more than once but also made me laugh out loud as well. Moonglass is poignant, the writing is stunningly beautiful and might just be one of my favorite reads of 2011. This moving debut had me thinking about it long after I finished the book. Moonglass is a definite pre-order. It's simply amazing.
