Haven Blog Tour Day 2 - Top Ten Tips & Giveaway

I cannot tell you how excited I am to be part of the official blog tour for Haven by Kristi Cook. I have no doubts that this book is going to be one of my favorites of 2011. It's just SO good!

So for day two in the blog tour, we are giving you some great tips for surviving the prestigious and talented Winterhaven school that Violet attends. I can tell you I've already broken one of these rules. Can you guess which one it is?

Oh, and also you will have a chance to win Haven for yourself. Are you ready? Here we go!

TOP TEN TIPS FOR SURVIVING YOUR FIRST YEAR AT WINTERHAVEN

1     Learn to block your thoughts.  Many of your fellow students are telepathic, meaning that they can read your mind without your knowledge or permission (though, of course, it is against the COPA for them to do so).  Blocking is a fairly easy skill to master-they can assign you a coach who can help you with this, if you don't know how.

2
Study the COPA, or Code of Paranormal Activity.  The COPA outlines the rules governing the use of your psychic gifts and talents while a student at Winterhaven.  Pay careful attention to the rules regarding off-campus school activities, such as sporting events and tournaments, or else you'll find yourself banned from leaving campus.  Or worse, expelled.  That would suck.

3
Figure out who shares your gift, and fast.  Most social groups and cliques at Winterhaven are gift-related.  So, if you're a telekinetic, find the other telekinetics.  They'll usually welcome you with open arms, with the upper-classmen serving as mentors to the lowers.  It's the fastest and most direct way to “fit in.”

4
Stay away from the loners!  They are usually loners for a reason.  That's all I'll say about that.

5
Follow the rules, no matter how lame, because they will know if you don't.  Pretty self-explanatory, right?  Just remember, the teachers and administrators at Winterhaven have gifts, too.  It's pretty hard to fool them.

6
Avoid the shifters.  I don't know why, but everyone else does.  They're just…weird.

7
Get some exercise.  Because believe it or not, the food is really good at Winterhaven! Expect to gain the freshman fifteen. There are plenty of gym classes offered-sign up for one.  The good ones (like spinning and Zumba) fill up fast.

8
Start thinking about your Halloween costume now!  The Halloween Fair dance is a big deal at Winterhaven. Plan accordingly!  There's only so much you get, costume-wise, on campus.

9
Don't fall in love with Aidan Gray.  He is unattainable-end of story. Many have tried (girls and guys), all have failed. It's a no-win situation for all, so don't risk embarrassing yourself.

10
Don't tell the school's “secret” to outsiders!  Including your parents, unless you are a legacy.  This one should go without saying, right?!  Because they will think you are C-R-A-Z-Y.  Trust me on this, okay?

So now that you know just how to survive your first year among the Winterhaven students (and teachers!) how would you like to win a copy of this amazing book?
